Major General Patricia D. Horoho, commanding general of the Western Regional Medical Command and Madigan Army Medical Center and Chief of the Army Nurse Corps in Tacoma, Wash., was assigned as deputy surgeon general of the U.S. Army and chief of the Army Nurse Corps in Falls Church, Va.
Major General Philip Volpe, deputy commander of the Joint Task Force- National Capital Region Medical in Bethesda, Md., was assigned as commanding general of the Western Regional Medical Command and Madigan Army Medical Center.
Dr. Piali De, an engineering fellow in civil security and response programs at Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems, recently received an award for technology innovation at the 2009 Women of Color’s 14th Annual Conference for her work on a system called Confluence that is designed to permit rapid decisionmaking in the face of pandemic crises, natural disasters and other major medical and humanitarian emergencies.
Brigadier General Theresa M. Casey, assistant surgeon general for modernization in the Office of the Air Force Surgeon General, is retiring. She served as an Air Force public health officer for most of her career. In her current job, she manages Air Force Medical research programs, medical equipment modernization and implementation of IT applications.
Michael O’Bar has been appointed deputy chief of TRICARE policy and operations at the TRICARE Management Activity (TMA). O’Bar was previously director of TMA’s Health Plan Policy Division. In addition, Pamala Bridges left TRICARE, where she had been deputy director of acquisition management and support and director of TRICARE procurement support.
Dr. Gail Wilensky joined the board of directors of BrainScope, which develops products for assessing traumatic brain injury. Wilensky is a senior fellow at Project Hope, a health education foundation, and is a former president of the Defense Health Board. BrainScope also formed a medical advisory board that includes former U.S. Army Surgeon General James B. Peake; former TRICARE Chief Medical Officer Daniel L. Cohen; Dr. T. Forcht Dagi, the former director of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons; Dr. James M. Ecklund, chairman of Inova Fairfax (Va.) Hospital’s Department of Neurosciences; Dr. Edward A. Michelson, chairman of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine; Dr. Dighton C. Packard, chairman of Baylor University Medical Center’s Department of Emergency Medicine; Dr. Steven C. Schachter, a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School; and Dr. Andrew M. Tucker, medical director of sports medicine at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore.
Dr. Michael Kilpatrick, director of strategic communications for the Military Health System (MHS), is the 2009 recipient of the University of New Mexico School of Medicine Khatali Distinguished Alumni Award. Kilpatrick, a1969 graduate of the school, spent 25 years in the Navy and joined MHS in 2000.
Force Health Protection and Readiness (FHP&R) named Mary Ante-Amburgey program development manager in its Office of International Health. In addition, FHP&R said Judith Dekle had joined its Office of Psychological Health as a social worker. ♦
