Navy Vice Admiral David Architzel was reappointed to the rank of vice admiral and assigned as commander of Naval Air Systems Command at Patuxent River, Md. Architzel is currently serving as principal deputy assistant secretary of the Navy (research, development and acquisition) at the Pentagon.
Brigadier General Daniel O. Wyman, commander of the 81st Medical Group, Air Education and Training Command, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., was assigned as command surgeon at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.
Commander Cheryl Borden recently joined the Military Health System as the executive officer to Rear Admiral Christine Hunter, deputy director of TRICARE Management Activity. Prior to her current position, Borden served as senior program analyst at the Department of Health and Human Services.
Colonel Kory Cornum, who has been selected for the rank of brigadier general, will be assigned as commander of the 81st Medical Group, Air Education and Training Command, Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. Cornum is currently serving as command surgeon at Headquarters Air Combat Command, Langley Air Force Base, Va.
The Military Health System announced the winners of its new “Building Stronger Female Physician Leaders in the MHS” award: Captain Marlene DeMaio, currently stationed at the Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, in the Senior MHS category; Lieutenant Colonel Jennifer C. Thompson, currently stationed at Brooke Army Medical Center, in the Junior Army category; Commander Elizabeth M. Hofmeister, currently deployed with the Combined Security Transition Command in Afghanistan, in the Junior Navy category; and Lieutenant Colonel Lidia S. Ilcus, currently stationed at Kirtland AFB, N.M., in the Junior Air Force category. MHS plans officially to honor the winners at its Jan. 26-28, 2010, conference at National Harbor, Md.
Colonel Chris Harrington, deputy program manager of the Medical Logistics Directorate of the Defense Health Services Systems program office, and the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) project team, were the recipients of the 2009 Health Information Systems Using Government Open Source Technology Award for their role in effectively integrating Open Source Software into the DMLSS application.
Christine Bader was selected as director of the Defense Health Board (DHB), overseeing all of the organization’s activities in support of the Military Health System mission, and ensuring timely and effective action stemming from DHB recommendations. Bader is also a colonel in the Air Force Reserve. Smiths Detection named Tim Piccotti vice president and general manager of the Americas Military and Emergency Responder business units. He will continue to supervise the production of products for DoD relating to chemical agent defense, as well as oversee other CBRN products.
Ronald Blanck, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general, joined the board of Oxygen Biotherapeutics. Blanck is a former surgeon general of the Army as well as commander at Walter Reed Medical Center. He is also currently chairman of Martin, Blanck and Associates, a Virginiabased consulting firm.
CliniComp International named Philip LaJoie as vice president of deployment, overseeing workflow planning and analysis as well as clinical information system implementation management for the company’s Essentris products. LaJoie previously was chief information officer at Naval Medical Center San Diego. ♦
